Pupil Leadership at Dunnington C of E Primary School:

As part of our Pupil Leadership Team, we believe that children need to experience duties and responsibilities that come with being a member of a community in order to help them prepare to play an active role as citizens in the wider world. Therefore, children in Year 6 have the opportunity to apply for different leadership roles within our school community:

  • House Captains
  • Sports captains
  • Media Prefects
  • Eco Prefects
  • Charity Prefects
  • Playground Prefects
  • Librarians

Each area of leadership works closely with staff and pupils to develop new projects, arrange events and help the children to contribute to the voice and vision of the school. We strive to craft confident and articulate leaders who can share their views to any audience and apply their leadership skills to real life situations.

At Dunnington Primary School, these leadership roles will be very important to the day-to-day organisation of our school. Only our Year 6 pupils are allowed to apply for these positions, therefore it is considered to be very prestigious. They are more than just a title and a badge; they require dedication and commitment for an entire year.

The positions not only allows the Year 6 pupils to lead by example and demonstrate their responsibility, it also enables the younger children to learn from a good role model.

Each Year 6 pupil is welcome to apply for each position with a second choice in reserve.  Applications should be made in writing to the Headteacher, stating their choice, suitability and aspirations for the role at the beginning of the third week of the Autumn Term.  All positions will be awarded in a special assembly on the Friday of that week and badges will be awarded at the same time.
