Welcome to Dunnington School

I hope that this website provides you with both useful information and a flavour of life within the Dunnington Family.

The Governing Body is responsible for the overall governance of the school, ensuring that it is run efficiently and effectively.  The body also offer guidance and expertise to the Headmaster to help provide the very best education that we can for our children.   Whilst the day to day running of the school is managed by the Senior Leadership Team, the Governing Body oversees the strategic direction and financial management of our school.

The Governing Body meets in full every term.  Governors are also in school outside of these formal meeting times, not only to participate in certain committees of which there are two; Performance & Standards and  Resources & Management,  but also to play a role in the wider school community. Governors are drawn from many walks of life and have a broad range of diverse expertise from business and finance.    We have Parent, Staff and Foundation Governors.  Our Parent Governors are the voice of the parents, bringing the views, ideas and concerns of the parents to our meetings.  Staff Governors are experienced educationalists. Our Foundation Governors are chosen by the Local Authority and Church, those governors specifically appointed by the Church  are there to ensure and enhance the Christian ethos of this Church school.

The Governors are always keen to seek the views of parents, so please come and chat to us when you see us at school, in the playground or at any school function. We feel extremely privileged to be part of the life of our successful and vibrant school.

I sincerely hope that your children enjoy their time as part of the Dunnington Family.

Become a School Governor

School governors are the most important volunteers in education. They have a key role to play in making sure all pupils at a school receive the highest standard of education possible and are able to achieve their full potential.

The governing body  has specific duties given to it by law including:

* Agreeing school development priorities;

* Monitoring and evaluating the performance of the school;

* Setting school targets;

* Making sure that the curriculum is balanced;

* Agreeing school policies;

* Agreeing an annual budget detailing planned spending and staffing;

* Appointment of Headteacher;

* Preparing an action plan following an Ofsted inspection;

* Developing extended services to meet a school's needs as part of the wider local community.

An effective governing body is a source of enormous strength to a school. Governors provide the headteacher with support and advice. They ask searching questions whilst respecting the headteacher's position as professional leader of the school. They share in formulating the school's aims and vision.

If you would like to be a governor please contact the school office to see if we have any vacancies.
