Stained Glass Window

Whole School Creation...

Over two days in September, Steven Cartwright a stained glass window artist based in Stoke Prior, worked with the children from Dunnington C of E Primary School. Small groups of children worked with Steven to each design and create a small glass panel based upon the theme of nature. Steven then took the individual panels back to his workshop and these were then fired and then constructed into a stained glass window.

The window has been fitted into the old original part  of the school building, which dates from 1876, to replace an original leaded window which has suffered some damage. On Tuesday 16th December, pupils, parents, carers, governors and school staff gathered together for the official unveiling of the window. Reverend Ruth Walker attended the ceremony and blessed the window. Also in attendance were Margaret Cunnington from Stratford upon Avon Decorative and Fine Arts Society, who had kindly sponsored the glass workshops, and Richard Warner, school governor, whose generosity had made the completion of the project possible.

Each pupil in the school now has their panel fitted into the window and the children have had great fun searching for their own piece of work and then pointing it out to friends and family. Everyone who has seen the window has been extremely impressed with the impact that it has had on the building and we hope that in later life this is something that the pupils will return to as adults and remember the great times that they enjoyed at Dunnington.

If anyone would like to view the window they are welcome to contact the school to arrange a suitable time.
